Congratulations on purchasing the Halonex® In-rail Module 2 — PoE!
In front of you is a managed layer 2 switch providing 2 Easy Lock™ Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) ports and for connecting towards regular application products it offers 2 traditional RJ45 ports with PoE (802.3af). Below you will find a quick overview of the highlights.
Ports
The switch has:
- 2x RJ45 ports 1Gbit with PoE IEEE 802.3af
- 2x Easy Lock™ POF 1 Gbit ports
Easily connected
Using the Easy Lock™ ports connecting to the network was never easier. Connecting a custom size cable can be done in just 4 simple steps:
- Cut the POF cable to size
- Open the Easy Lock™ port
- Push the POF cable in
- Close the Easy Lock™ port
No more fiddling with RJ45 connectors!
Redundant network
Using POF your network can be connected in a ring or line, rather than the traditional star topology; star topology however remains a possibility. Besides the obvious benefits of less cable, less installation time, less pollution and more flexibility your network also becomes redundant. Just connect all devices in a ring and the switch will automatically use RSTP making your network connection redundant.
Easy cloud commissioning
When powering on the switch it will automatically ask for its configuration from FCS, the FiberUnlimited Cloud Services. Saving you time to configure it by hand.

Warnings & Precautions
Please read the following warnings and precautions carefully.
Remove power from power lines
Make sure and verify that the power running towards the device is OFF before installing the device.
Tip: Switch off the phase you are working with.
Do not stare into POF ports & POF cables
Refrain from looking directly into the POF ports or the ends of the POF cable. The used optics emit a red color so you can see the light in order to establish the correct way of installing the cables. The red light is LED based and not harmful. However, staring into the light for a prolonged period can result in eye irritations or worse.
Use the proper tools for installation
When installing the devices make sure to use proper tools that are purpose made for the job at hand. Using the wrong tools may result in injury.
Never insert tools and materials that are conductive into the device
You may get an electrical shock when inserting tools and materials that are conductive into the device. Please refrain from using such tools and materials for these purposes.
Follow construction regulations
For your own personal safety always follow the construction warnings and regulations when installing the device.
Do not open the device
By opening the device all warrantee’s and guarantees will terminate

- Work on the electrical parts of the device must be performed by a certified professional.
- Only use the device for its intended purpose.
- Only install the device following the instructions provided in this manual.
- Refrain from manipulating, altering, adjusting the device in any way other than as indicated in this manual. This includes but is not limited to heating the device, deforming it in any way, applying lubricants and using excessive force.

Hardware installation
Need to know
The following items need to be taken into account when installing the Halonex® In-rail Module 2 — PoE.

Installation
Step 1
Insert the device into place and screw it in.
Step 2
Connect the AC electrical wiring into the device at the specified location. Use a flathead screwdriver.
Wire preparation:
- Use solid copper wire 1,5mm2 or Pre insulated end terminals
- Strip 8,5 to 9,5 mm of wire
Connecting the wire:
- Press the terminal (L/N/NC) you want to connect with a flathead screwdriver
- Insert the wire;
- Remove the screwdriver.
Step 3
Remove the protective Easy Lock™ caps.
Note: only proceed with this step if the POF cable is being installed immediately. Otherwise, leave the cap in place to prevent dust and particle to enter the Easy Lock™ port.
- Open the Easy Lock™ port by pulling outwards;
- Remove the protective cap by pulling it away from the device.
Step 4
Prepare the POF cable and connect it to the device.
POF cable preparation:
- Make sure the POF cable is cut at a perfect 90 degree angle using a POF cable cutter. Also remove any residue from the cable.
- Carefully split about 4 cm of the POF cable into 2 single cables. One TX one RX cable.
Cable indication:
Dark = No light is being emitted
Shining = A red light is being emitted
Inserting the POF cable:
- Open the Easy Lock™ by pulling outwards;
- Determine the TX and RX on the CABLE. Never insert a shining fiber into a shining port or vice versa!
- Determine the TX and RX of the DEVICE. When holding the device like depicted and looking straight at the Easy Lock™ port; the left opening is the TX side on the device indicated with a solid dot (pic) and will be the side that is transmitting light when the device is turned on. you can easily remember this by the fraise; “Left is Light.”
- Insert the POF cable.
Note 1: When power is shut down you can always distinguish the TX and RX by looking for the marker on one of the fibers.
Note 2: Push the cable all the way to the back of the port until you cannot go any further (approximately 2 cm). This ensures that the optics are as close to the cable as possible.
Failure to do so will result in significant loss of throughput and maybe even no connection at all.
- Close the Easy Lock™ port by pushing firmly inwards. This will lock the POF cable in place.
Verification
Step 1
Turn on the device by providing power the device.
Step 2
Check power and boot:
At the top of the device the Power LED must be blinking (device is booting) or steady (device ready for use).
Check POF connections:
Both POF LED-indicators must be on. This indicates that both Easy Lock™ ports are active. From that moment on the device is fully booted and ready for operation.
Commissioning
To add the Halonex® In-rail Module 2 — PoE to your network follow the initial steps below.
Initial setup
Step 1
Find the MAC-address of the installed Halonex® In-rail Module 2 — PoE
Step 2
Go to the FiberUnlimited Cloud Services (FCS) web portal and add the device to the location of your choosing or provide the MAC-address and it’s physical location to the IT network administrator. For further information see the FCS manual at www.fiberunlimited.com/manuals
Step 3
Connect the device to a network on TAGGED VLAN 502 (The management VLAN for Halonex® devices) or the native UNTAGGED VLAN 1. Once the device is turned on it will request an IP through DHCP.
Managing the device
The Halonex® In-rail Module 2 — PoE can be managed through the FiberUnlimited Cloud Services portal (FCS). Here you will find all the features to configure the Halonex® devices. These services are made available to authorized IT network professionals.
