Technology is the foundation for innovation and growth, and the Capella concept for distribution halls provides buildings with just that. Capella is an initiative by Stellar Development and Heembouw, aiming to realize innovative indoor infrastructure. This was achieved through a unique collaboration between innovation specialists TRILUX, MyMesh, Inotec, and FiberUnlimited. In 2022, these players came together to equip Stellar Development’s properties with innovations in lighting, wireless sensors, emergency lighting, and connectivity, with the goal of enhancing the sustainability of these buildings without increasing costs.
As part of the Capella concept, FiberUnlimited provides buildings with Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) cables and Optolux® modules, seamlessly integrated into the lighting lines, giving the building an instant data network that is ready for use by the tenant. The Optolux® solution is also highly flexible and can be easily be expanded with new connections without additional cabling, meeting the tenant’s additional needs. By installing the POF cable in a ring rather than a traditional STAR network, FiberUnlimited offers a reduction in the required cable length by up to 80%, and significantly fewer switches are needed. This results in considerable savings in both initial cost and maintenance, and also saves 30% on energy consumption due to the applied LED communication and smart PoE provisioning.
The combination of significant savings in the required cable length and the use of POF cable instead of the traditionally used copper-containing UTP cable reduces the CO2 footprint of the installed network by up to 90%. Additionally, the POF cable has a lifespan of at least 30 years.
Within the Capella concept FiberUnlimited not only offers POF cables but also equips the building with Optolux® modules. These modules are connected to the POF cable and provide the user with connectivity where it is needed. Each Optolux® module is equipped with 2 x RJ45 ports with PoE+ for connecting products such as Wi-Fi acces points or cameras to the data network. And because the POF cable is laid in a ring, it is very easy to add an extra Optolux® module afterward where needed. It’s simply a matter of cutting the POF cable and inserting a module. This allows for quick and efficient responses to changing needs without high costs and disruptions to the workspace due to the installation of new cabling.
With this solution, FiberUnlimited offers a modular system that provides buildings with sustainable and future-proof connectivity. You can find all the details on our website.
