Metalis is a modern metalworking company based in Drachten. From series production to project-based assignments in the metal industry, Metalis combines a state-of-the-art, modern machine park with skilled professionals to deliver high-quality products. Metalis supports clients from initial design to complete assembly. Established in 2006, the company has a clear vision: Metalis contributes responsibly to society — with a focus on people and the environment — ensuring that we ultimately give back more than we take.
This vision is also reflected in the new facility. While all new buildings must comply with the latest regulations for sustainable construction, Metalis has taken several additional steps for their newest facility. Upon completion, the new facility achieved an energy label of A+++++, featuring 450 solar panels on the roof. These panels generate 175,000 kWh annually, of which 85% is used for internal production. Furthermore, from November to March, between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Metalis draws no electricity from the grid, thanks to battery storage. With these efforts combined, Metalis is on track to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2025.
A future-ready data network
When selecting the data network, Metalis partnered with Belje Avai, an innovative company that introduced the FiberUnlimited solution. The POF (Polymer Optical Fiber) cabling, combined with Quad® modules, ensured a highly efficient network setup for the new facility. Instead of the 2,600 meters of CAT cabling typically required, only 750 meters of POF cabling were needed. The Quad® modules provide connectivity to various metalworking machines, and the network was installed in two rings.
This FiberUnlimited solution not only reduced the total length of cabling but also significantly shortened installation time. Additionally, the system allows for efficient remote monitoring, managed by Belje Avai.
