The E-waste problem gets rarely addressed in the media or in general. Recently this topic was addressed in a dual-page article in a Dutch newspaper (Trouw, 18 July 2024) showing the problems that we cause in other places on our globe.
[Trouw, 18 July 2024]
Almost invisible due to thick clouds of smoke, the 20-year-old Shahardu Alhassan is burning a bundle of thin electrical cables on one of the world’s most polluted e-waste dumps in the heart of Ghana’s capital Accra.
Using a stick, wearing slippers and dripping with sweat, Alhassan pokes the fire real hot. Once only aluminum and copper wires are left over, he extinguishes the fire.
….. “Nobody keeps up with this for more than 10 years without becoming seriously ill” he says, with a shy look in his eyes.
Reading stories like these makes you think: shouldn’t we do something about this? One of the best ways to reduce e-waste is by simply using less material!
FiberUnlimited provides you with an Optolux® network solution that uses 80% less cable. And recycling POF cable is much easier than a UTP cable.
Makes you think!
